BAYELSA STATE GOVERNMENT MAKES MOVES TO JOIN THE WORLD ENERGY CITIES PARTNERSHIP (WECP)
The Bayelsa State Government took the bold step of seeking to have Yenagoa become a member city of WECO by attending the 35th anniversary/annual general meeting of the World Energy Cities Partnership in Halifax, Canada.
The Honourable Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment Mr. Kemela Okara who led the delegation of the Bayelsa State Government accompanied by Mr. Denzil Kentebe, Executive Chairman, Bayelsa State Eco- Industrial City Project, Miss Patience Ranami Abah, Director General, Bayelsa Investment Promotion Agency and Mr. Tam Alazigha, Managing Director, Bayelsa Development Investment Corporation representing His Excellency, The Governor as Observers at the annual general meeting of WECP and to present Yenagoa City's application to be accepted as a member city.
The World Energy Cities Partnership is made up of member cities, globally recognized as international energy capitals. This association helps member cities explore business opportunities and share knowledge to advance education and research. This unique partnership also enables exchange beyond the energy industry and the exploration of opportunities for mutual development in education, environment technology, medicine, bio-science and tourism.
The WECP membership cuts across America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania. The Honourable Commissioner whilst presenting Yenagoa's application stressed that Yenagoa is a small city with big ambitions seeking to become the 3rd member city in Africa, alongside Luanda, Angola and Cape Town, South Africa.
The Commissioner assured WECP that upon becoming a member, the city of Yenagoa will be committed to the ideals and goals of the Partnership.
