THE NEED FOR SOUTH SOUTH, SOUTH EAST COALITION : THE OGONI CASE STUDY
Let me inform us that Biafra was an agitation by Niger Delta people, Chief Opigo from Bayelsa named the country. Biafra is defined by the Bight of Biafra, Coast of the Atlantic Ocean, no igbo community is on that line. Dr GB Leton, manufactured the popular Biafran Ogbunigwe. Effiong from Akwa Ibom led the army and later became the second president of Biafra after Ojukwu an Ibo man who was a privileged young man and Governor of then Eastern region the first president of Biafra escaped. Most Ogoni men fought on the side of Biafra during the civil war. This is to prove that the agitation which started in the Eastern house by our Fathers from Ogoni and the rest of Niger Delta got wary of the lies and delayed or low development of our region. The struggle for self-determination is in our blood and culture. We did not allow the British army to conquer us like they did to other tribes.
We are proudly Ogoni and we have our Bible to restructuring well documented in the Ogoni bill of rights. If Nigeria wants peace and development at a competitive speed, they should allow us to talk on a round table. No Ogoni man will accept anything less than the Ogoni bill of rights.
Ken Saro Wiwa did not sabotage Biafra because there was no bargain in the first place. If there is no agreement, there can be no sabotage.
all we are pleading with all is that we should stop seeing Biafra agitation as Ibo thing. If they proscribe IPOB, and we all keep quiet, tomorrow, they will proscribe MOSOP and everybody will be quiet. We have led a peaceful agitation in the current dispensation for over 30 years now (1993-date), not to mention pre-colonial, during colonial and post colonial Ogoni resistance and agitations. We have been made to report to Ikot Abasi, Okrika, Degema at different times, just because some people think we are too few or like a street in Port Harcourt. Suffice me to state without exaggeration that many communities in Ogoni like Yeghe, Bodo etc are bigger than Port Harcourt City LGA. Khana LGA is one of the biggest local government in Nigeria and so many other LGAs, namely Khana, Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Oyigbo are worth becoming 4 to 5 local governments without little or no presence or projects of government. Is it that, we are not in government, no. But we have never been given a chance to develop ourselves. We don't have access to our natural resources. We are not in charge of our political space. We are not allowed to be in charge of our destiny. We are seen as a threat wherever we go. That is what the British people said about us. BUT THAT IS NOT TRUE OF US. We are rather progressives, conscious of sustainable development any where we are. We speak the truth like babies and we detest slavery under any guise. Ogonis are the most loyal people on earth once the goals are defined towards development. No wonder, we are always in government.
We must wake up now, join our voice with that of others and call for a Referendum. We must speak now and let them remember as at 1995, Nigeria had only two problems, which are June 12 and Ogoni Bill of rights. Yoruba had been given 8 years of Presidency while nothing has happened in Ogoni except more lies and fake promises. Not even the East West Road can be completed in Ogoni. Have you seen why we can't keep quiet and allow them stop agitations using killing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and proscribing of IPOB as a case study. Remember they said every other group of agitators will be proscribed too. What is Northerners about to do that they are trying to quiet every other person.
We have been in the forefront of peaceful agitations and our struggle through MOSOP is at the international level, in United Nations, UNPO. It's time we teach we our neighbours and share our experiences that was even under military era. Yes we can forgive the hurts of the past with our brothers and define a better future together.
