Naval Chief Inspects NNC, NNBTS In Onne
By Jiji William
Rear Admiral Obi Ferdinald Ofodile, Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command has visited the Nigerian Naval College, NNC and Nigerian Navy Basic Training Schools, Onne to inspect facilities.
Prominent among the areas he inspected include NNBTS standard obstacle crossing, Nigerian Navy swimming pool, Onne, Protestant Church, Nigerian Navy Catholic Church, Nigerian Navy Mosque, Nigerian Naval Medical Centre, Nigerian Navy Primary School, Nigerian Navy College and Nigerian Navy Basic Training School, Onne.
He and his entourage were welcomed by the head of these various units visited and they related their challenges to him.
In an interview with the Naval Chief, he said, “I am the new FOC, NAVTRAC, I took over command two months ago, and as it is customary in the armed forces, when you take over command, your principal officers would brief you of what is on ground and you will compare it with what is contained in the handing and take over note. All those things, I did at the headquarters, Naval training command, Lagos, and the next step is to go to the field to view what is on ground, and tell the officers and men that this is the new person in command. You speak to them and they speak to you. You compare what they have told you with what you have seen on ground and what you have read in the handing and take over note and what the principal staff officers have told you. And that is the reason why I am here. You know that in this premises we have two basic schools, the NNC and the NNBTS. I have confirmed that the things that my principal staff officers and men told me are correct”.
He expressed confidence that the Chief of Naval Staff would provide quality facilities for the training and retraining of staff. He noted that most of the facilities in the premises were provided by the Chief of Naval Staff.
He noted that his priority is to train quality personnel in the defence of the country, Nigeria. He said he would like to be remembered as a man who contributed to the quality training of naval officers.
“If you combine the NNC and NNBTS, you would discover that the officers are more than 2,000. The navy is gradually increasing in number of intake of staff, we are gradually improving on our facilities and in no distant time we shall record lots of improvements”, he stated.
